“The new equipment allows us to safely conduct experiments that release gases, something we couldn’t do before.”
Over the summer, ISB made significant upgrades, including the addition of three state-of-the-art science labs and a dedicated prep room at the secondary school. These new spaces are designed to support the IB Diploma Programme (DP) and the broader Middle Years Programme (MYP) science curriculum, providing advanced resources essential for comprehensive scientific inquiry.
The new labs offer a wide range of tools and resources, enhancing hands-on scientific exploration across all branches of science. Equipped with upgraded technology, advanced safety features, and specialized workspaces, the labs enable students to conduct more complex experiments, supporting both their everyday learning and IB DP projects like Internal Assessments (IA) and Extended Essays (EE). Grade 12 student Linnea highlights, “The new equipment allows us to safely conduct experiments that release gases, something we couldn’t do before.”
The labs also feature essential safety equipment, such as sinks at all lab benches, eye-wash stations, ceramic surfaces, and automatic electrical shut-off mechanisms, ensuring compliance with the latest health and safety standards. The addition of a prep room—equipped with a fume hood, dishwasher, fridge, and freezer—enhances the efficiency of our lab technician, facilitating the preparation and execution of experiments.
Mr. Hall, ISB’s Science Leader of Learning, notes, “Students now have the opportunity to carry out more complex, varied experiments. Our IB DP students, in particular, benefit from the resources needed for their Internal Assessments (IA) and Extended Essays (EE), which they couldn't undertake before.”
These modern facilities not only support current learning but also prepare students for advanced studies and careers in STEM fields, ensuring that ISB provides the highest quality science education and empowers students to explore, innovate, and thrive.
